Smartphone Reviews
When doing any smartphone comparison to help make your decision on which
model to buy, one of the most important features to look out for is the operating system the phone runs on. The OS
is the whole foundation of the phone, controlling both the way it works and the range of apps that you'll be able
to download. Here's a guide to choosing the right OS for you. Below this page is a comprehensive side-by-side
smartphone comparison chart and smartphone reviews of the latest and popular
smartphones.
User Interface
The first thing you'll notice in your smartphone comparison is that the OS you choose has a big
impact on the way the phone works. Most of us want a phone that's simple to use, one that we don't have to read a
whole instruction manual to be able to figure out!
In terms of being user-friendly, Apple's iOS (used on the iPhone) is probably the most famous
for this. Windows 7 is also very easy to use. Android is generally considered to be more difficult to use, but with
the benefit that it's much more easy to customize than iOS.
Apps
The next thing you'll notice about the operating system is that it determines the app store you
have access to. IOS currently has the biggest app store out of all the OS choices. However, Android isn't too far
behind, and developers usually make an app available for both platforms. Although there are far fewer apps
available to use on Windows phones, this is a good choice if you want the best integration with Windows programs on
the PC.
Customization
As mentioned earlier, Android is the best operating system in terms of how much you can
customize it, and its app store is also the most open. However, many people don't need to customize their phones.
They just want something that works how they need it to, which is why iOS still remains such a popular choice.
Business Or Personal Use?
In any smartphone comparison, you have to consider exactly what it is that you'll want to use
your smartphone for. If you're buying it for business, then you may want to take a look at Windows and Blackberry
for the range of features they have. For personal use, on the other hand, iOS and Android are certainly the most
popular operating systems out there.
Which Should You Choose?
You may have noticed something throughout this article, and it's that there's no clear winner of
the smartphone comparison between operating systems. If you're looking for something easy to
use, with an interface that looks good, then Apple iOS is an excellent choice. If, however, you'd like access to a
more open app store, and the ability to customize your phone, then Android is the best choice for you. Or you may
mainly want to use Microsoft applications, in which case Windows is the perfect choice.
It also comes down to one other factor, however, and that's the carriers the phone is available
on. This will limit the phones available to you, and you'll find that Android is currently the most common
operating system out of all the phones on the market.
